Sofia Art Institute presents a one-day cello masterclass with American cellist Katie Tertell – a performer with an international career, an artistic curator, and a passionate advocate for the development of chamber music.

Katie Tertell is a member of the Irish ensemble Musici Ireland, the founder and artistic director of the Appalachian Chamber Music Festival (USA), and a co-founder of the research project Lost in Plain Sight. This project, dedicated to the music and legacy of composer and cellist Gaspar Cassadó, will be presented at Helikon Art on December 2nd. A former member of the RTÉ Symphony Orchestra in Ireland, she has performed in prestigious venues and at festivals such as the Barbican, the Southbank Centre, and the BBC Proms.

As a cello teacher at Durham University in the UK, Katie Tertell combines her extensive performance experience with a deep commitment to the development of young musicians. Since 2019, she has spearheaded the creation of 13 new chamber works, demonstrating her strong interest in contemporary music and innovative ways of engaging with audiences.

During the masterclass, participants will have the opportunity to work one-on-one with the cellist on repertoire of their own choosing, deepen their musical interpretation, and receive professional guidance from an artist with a wealth of international experience. The masterclass is aimed at young cellists who wish to develop their performance skills and enrich their artistic perspective through individual work with an internationally recognized musician.
